WISCONSIN -- The deadline is fast-approaching to get enrolled under the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.

Kimberly Turner is a licensed navigator with Covering Wisconsin, which is operated through the University of Wisconsin. She can find Wisconsinites the best plan possible on the federal health care exchange, but time is running out.

"The deadline is Saturday," she said. “There are no exceptions unless you have a special enrollment period."

Exceptions are when you experience a "life event," as in losing health insurance through your employer, getting married or divorced, or having a child.

"Everybody needs coverage, and there are affordable options out there."

When signing up for health insurance through the marketplace, Turner says you’ll need:

  • Photo ID
  • Poof of income
  • Date(s) of birth

She also recommends bringing information about your current doctors and medication to ensure you can continue coverage the same providers.

A study by the Kaiser Family Foundation shows 67,279 uninsured Wisconsin residents have access to the Bronze Plan, which federal tax credits would make free. Turner said other plans are also very affordable.

"When they fall into a certain income, those cost sharing plans are 30 cents a month," Turner said. "That is definitely affordable."
