ORLANDO, Fla. — Representative-elect Republican Michael Waltz, who will represent U.S. House District 6, sat down with Political Connections’s Ybeth Bruzual to discuss budget, immigration, and military issues facing Congress.

Waltz, a U.S. Army Special Forces veteran and CEO of Metis Solutions, is taking over the U.S. congressional seat once occupied by Governor-elect Ron DeSantis.

He defeated Democrat Nancy Soderberg in the November midterm elections for the District 6 post, in which he credited a ground-game grassroots strategy in ultimately winning the race.

When discussing immigration with Bruzual, he reiterated his stance on border control.

"If we don't have secure borders, we're going to have the same problems five, 10 years from now," Waltz said. "But at the same time we need to reform our legal immigration system for the immigrants that I know get incredibly upset at the thought of someone skipping them."

U.S. House District 6 covers parts of North Lake, Volusia, Flagler, and St. Johns counties, which are along the east coast of Florida.
