NEWTOWN, Conn. — Sandy Hook Elementary School was evacuated Friday morning after it received a bomb threat on the sixth anniversary of the massacre there that left more than two dozen dead.

  • Sandy Hook students sent home for day after bomb threat
  • Friday is 6-year anniversary of massacre that left 2 dozen dead
  • It's unclear whether threat is related to nationwide hoax threats

It's unclear whether the threat was related to the emailed hoax bomb threats a day earlier that forced the evacuation of schools, buildings and institutions across the country.

Students at Sandy Hook were sent home for the day after the threat was received at about 9 a.m.

On Dec. 14, 2012, a gunman stormed the school, killing 20 first-graders and six educators. The school was torn down and rebuilt.

Moments of silence were observed nationwide Friday.
