ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The rain and storms moving through the area will shift east.

  • Heavy showers and thunderstorms still possible into the evening
  • Some showers continue into Saturday morning
  • Turning cooler Sunday into next week

A River Flood Warning is now in effect for the Withlacoochee River at Dunnellon in Citrus County, from Saturday morning until further notice.

Meteorologists predict the river will continue to rise above flood stage to 29.2 feet by early Wednesday morning -- enough to flood docks and boat ramps at least.

A Flood Watch is now in effect for Citrus, Hernando, and Pasco counties through 4 a.m. Saturday.

There will still be lingering clouds with a few light showers even into Saturday morning, because the front is lagging back behind to the west. Therefore temperatures won’t change much with the morning lows still hovering in the 60s.

The gusty winds we’ve had will decrease and decrease into the morning.

Saturday will feature cloudy skies in the morning with still some lingering scattered showers moving in from the Gulf from time to time. But they will tend to decrease through the day with the afternoon to evening mainly dry. The clouds will also decrease with some peaks of sun likely before it sets.

Temperatures will not change much through the day, only climbing a few degrees into the low 70s.

Saturday night will be partly cloudy with lows in the 50s.

The winds will finally shift and come from the northwest on Sunday. That will slowly bring in drier air, but there could still be some lingering sprinkles or a light shower Sunday morning before the drier air finally takes over that afternoon with decreasing clouds.

The highs on Sunday will again be steady, not really warmer or cooler with highs likely around 70 to 72.

The weather will be seasonable and nice after that for a few days with not much movement up or down in the temperatures.

Monday will be mostly sunny with highs in the 60s. Tuesday will be mostly sunny with highs in the upper 60s to near 70. Wednesday will be partly cloudy with highs in the 70s. During that time the lows at night will be in the 40s and 50s each night.

Clouds will increase toward the end of the week and it looks likely we’ll have some rain showers passing through Thursday into Friday.
