PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — A Pasco County man has been arrested after allegedly leading deputies on a pursuit and firing at them out of the window of his car.

  • Suspect accused of firing shots at deputies from vehicle
  • Chase Johnson, 19, was wanted for alleged armed home invasion
  • Johnson was also wanted on a carjacking charge

Chase Johnson, 19, is being charged with attempted homicide of a law enforcement officer and fleeing to elude.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office said Johnson was wanted by authorities for armed home invasion robbery, and carjacking.

An informant told them where he would be and deputies went to find him.

As deputies passed by on the road, Johnson allegedly accelerated and struck the side of one of their vehicles.

The Sheriff's Office had placed stop sticks on the road, and Johnson ran over them, which caused his tires to go flat.

Deputies said he kept driving and started shooting at deputies, who were following him.

Eventually, Johnson drove off the road and into a pond.

"At that point, Johnson decided he was going to take himself hostage. This is not an effective means of avoiding arrest, so they started trying to talk him down," said Captain Tait Sanborn.

Johnson tossed his gun into the pond and was arrested.

He is being held in the Land O' Lakes Detention Facility.
