ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A Ruskin man was arrested and charged with DUI in a hit-and-run involving two pedestrians in St. Petersburg on Saturday. 

St. Petersburg police said Cameron Baxley failed to yield to two pedestrians in the crosswalk at the intersection of 1st Avenue North and 3rd Street North.  

Both pedestrians, Malcolme Tunstall, 24, and Alexis Scognamiglio, 23, were struck and injured.

Police said Baxley fled the scene after the crash, which occurred around 11:30 p.m., but was later stopped by police several blocks away. 

Tunstall sustained life-threatening injuries and Scognamiglio obtained minor injuries. Both pedestrians were transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg. 

Baxley was charged with DUI serious bodily injury and leaving the scene of a crash with injuries. 

The investigation remains ongoing.
