POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Residents of the New Horizons Assisted Share Home in Winter Haven got a nice treat Tuesday. Members of the Faith Extreme youth group came over to sing Christmas carols and give them teddy bears.

“I think the kids are just as excited as the residents are here,” said director youth group Sean Fielder. “I mean these kids are part of our program here all year long. They realize that God has given so much to them and this is the time of the year to really give back to the community.”

A couple of dozen residents gathered for the carols in an activity room. Resident Doris Shaffer had tears of joy streaming down her face after the presentation.

“Oh, I mean the tops. The star. The shining star is them,” she said.

Southeastern University student Yvena Louis was one of the carolers. She was excited to be a blessing to the residents.

“Because it’s another way to serve Jesus by service to other people,” Louis said.

The carolers surprised resident David McCarthy in his room with a rendition of "Silent Night." He loved it.

“Couldn’t ask for better,” he said.

Many of the youth group members visit New Horizons several other times each year, so they know the residents as friends.
