ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating the shooting death of a 17-year-old girl. 

Officials said the teen was accidentally shot inside a vehicle at about 3:15 a.m. near Central Avenue and 58th Street. 

According to the arrest affidavit, Jessica Perry, 21, had a firearm in the backseat of the vehicle and accidentally discharged the gun, striking the victim in the back. 

Perry then drove behind the police station on Central Avenue where they flagged down a police officer. 

The teenaged girl, identified as Destiny Loper, later died from her injuries.  

Perry has been charged with manslaughter. 

Officials said the circumstances are still under investigation.
