ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — More Sears and Kmart closings are closings are on the way, including in the Bay area.

The closures will take place in late March and involve 80 locations total, according to Sears Holdings.

The Kmart location on Highway 301 in Ellenton is among the stores will close, along with a Kmart in Fort Walton Beach.

Five Sears locations in Florida will close, including Westshore Plaza in Tampa and U.S. Highway 19 N in Port Richey.

The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in October .

The retailer that began out as a mail order catalog in the 1880s has been in a slow death spiral, hobbled by the Great Recession and then overwhelmed by rivals both down the street and across the internet.
