ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A judge ruled Monday on how prior so-called "bad acts" by John Jonchuck can be brought up during his murder trial.

  • Hearing was held Monday for John Jonchuck
  • Jonchuck accused of throwing daughter, 5, off approach to Skyway Bridge
  • Previous stories on this case

Jonchuck is accused of killing his 5-year-old daughter, Phoebe, by throwing her off the approach to the Skyway Bridge in 2015.

The judge said the only time the jury can hear about previous incidents is through expert testimony.

Defense attorneys plan to argue that Jonchuck was insane at the time and that voices urged him to kill his daughter.

There's another hearing scheduled for next month to prepare the questionnaire for potential jurors.

The trial is now scheduled to begin on March 18.
