HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A 29-year-old Hillsborough County man is accused of abusing his girlfriend's four-year-old daughter.

  • Couple charged for injuries sustained to child
  • Man abused girlfriend's 4-year-old daughter
  • Child had injuries consistent with physical abuse over time

According to deputies, Allen Stanford caused great bodily harm to the toddler.

The couple, Amber Jones and Stanford, brought the girl to Brandon Regional Hospital on Tuesday for injuries to her entire body.

They claimed the wounds were self-inflicted.  However, detectives determined the child's injuries were "consistent with a pattern of physical abuse over time," the report stated.

Stanford and Jones, who live together, were arrested and charged in the crime.

Stanford was charged with three counts of child abuse with great bodily harm and one count of child neglect with great bodily harm, for harming his girlfriend's four-year-old daughter.

Jones was charged with felony child neglect with great bodily harm and felony failure to report child abuse.

Deputies said the child's injuries are non-life threatening.  She has since been removed from the home and remains in protective custody.

The investigation remains ongoing.
