ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Warmer air has been coming back into the region today and will be with us into Saturday. It will be short lived as we see another cold front on the way Sunday.

  • Breezy Saturday
  • Rain Saturday night
  • Colder, windy Sunday

In the meantime, expect mostly clear to partly cloudy skies overnight into early Saturday morning. Lows will be milder, stopping in the 50s.

Saturday will feature warmer conditions with highs reaching the mid to upper 70s. It will however be a breezy day with winds from the south, so it will feel cooler at the beach and the surf will get rough.

Clouds will be on the increase during the day but the good news is we don’t expect rain during the day. However, we’ll likely get some rain showers coming in from the Gulf Saturday evening with a solid line of rain moving through overnight into early Sunday morning. Most of the rain will be gone by sunrise Sunday, but there will still be a few lingering sprinkles or brief showers passing that morning. The cold front will come through so fast that the high temperature for the day will actually be at about sunrise near 60 degrees.

The winds will become very gusty and colder air will come rushing into the region with temperatures in the 50s the rest of the day. Clouds will slowly decrease during the day with clear skies by that evening.

Sunday night into Monday morning will be cold with lows dropping into the 30s and a freeze likely for northern counties.

Monday will be a sunny, but chilly day with highs only in the 50s again.

Monday night will be chilly with lows in the 40s and 30s.

Tuesday will be milder with highs returning to the upper 60s to near 70 degrees.

Clouds will start increasing quickly next week with partly to mostly cloudy skies by Wednesday afternoon. It will however be a milder day with highs back into the 70s.

The next cold front will approach Thursday with rain likely that day. Highs will be in the low 70s early and then drop that afternoon to evening as the front arrives.

Another blast of cold air is on the way for next Friday with highs likely back down to the 50s at that time.

As of right now it appears the coldest air we’ve seen so far this winter is on the way for next weekend. We could be looking at a freeze potential for the entire region. That is something we’ll be monitoring and updating you on as we go through the upcoming week.
