ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Two men were killed and another was injured after a shooting in St. Petersburg during an unofficial Martin Luther King, Jr. Day gathering.

According to St. Petersburg police, police responded to shots fired on 34th Street South at 18th Avenue South just before 10 p.m. Monday. 

When officers arrived, there was a crowd of approximately 100 people gathered in a gas station parking lot on the corner.

Authorities said gunfire erupted during the gathering, leaving at least one car riddled with bullets. Officials said Roger Lee Ford, 42, and Tywan Jeremiah Armstrong, 39, were killed. 

Another man, 44-year-old Carlos Demetrius Young, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was hospitalized. 

Officials said they do not believe the shooting was random. A gunman remains at large.

"Whenever you have anybody with a gun firing shots, you certainly don't want them at-large," said St. Petersburg Police Spokesperson Yolanda Fernandez. "(But) We honestly don't believe the public is in danger."
