ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — One person was killed Saturday afternoon in a crash involving a motorcycle on Central Avenue. 

According to St. Petersburg police, the crash happened just before 5 p.m. on Central between Park Street and 80th Street.

Officers said A 2013 Honda motorcycle driven by 20-year-old Maxwell William McMahan was traveling westbound at high speeds on Central Avenue near Causeway Blvd. 

Police said as the motorcycle was weaving through cars, it struck the center median curb.

The motorcycle spun, flipped and struck a pole before it stopped in the westbound median lane.  McMahan, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle.

He was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where was pronounced dead.

The roadway was blocked for several hours Saturday afternoon.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
