Investigators charged Anthony Suffoletto, 28, with first degree murder and child abuse. He had his first appearance in Pinellas County Court on Wednesday afternoon.

According to his arrest affidavit, Suffoletto was watching his daughter, Gianna, on February 28. The baby's mother was not home.

Suffoletto allegedly told investigators he heard the baby moaning and gasping, so he threw cold and hot water on her face instead of calling 911.

When the mother returned home, she found Gianna unresponsive. She called 911 and the baby was brought to the hospital.

Gianna died from her injuries on March 5.

Investigators with the Largo Police Department say Gianna suffered blunt force trauma to her head, torso, and legs. The baby reportedly had rib fractures, tibia fractures and a broken femur. She also suffered brain hemorrhages.

Gianna's mother allegedly told investigators that Suffoletto would often get frustrated with the baby when she was fussy.

Suffoletto has reportedly denied the abuse. He remains in jail.
