SARASOTA, Fla. — The Sarasota Police Department has arrested a man accused of shooting at first responders back in January.

Tyran Young, 32, is facing multiple felony charges.

On January 7, around 4 a.m., Sarasota police officers responded to 2932 Goodrich Avenue for shots fired after Young allegedly shot a paramedics with the county fire department.  Multiple bullet holes were found on the side of the ambulance.  Luckily, no one was hurt.

Detectives determined that Young made the original 911 call through a text-to-talk message that said 'Please send help, I fell really hard.'

Another concerning fact, is that detectives said Young made a similar false medical call about a person falling back in November of 2018.  They believe that was a dry run.

Police also said Young is a five time convicted felon.

After the incident, the Sarasota Police Department and the fire department, along with surrounding counties, say they changed protocol on how they will answer calls.  However, they did not want to release specifics to the public for obvious safety reasons.
