CLEARWATER, Fla. — A new attorney has joined the Michael Drejka defense team.

Theresa Jean Pierre Coy, a criminal justice attorney from Tampa, has joined the team after a series of events involving the lawyers representing the man accused of shooting and killing another man of a Clearwater convenience store parking space.

"I’m eager to join this team so that we can get justice for both sides in this case," Coy said in a statement released after her joining the defense team. "My intention with joining this team is not be a distraction but rather to focus on the upcoming trail."

Drejka attorney John Trevena was released from Pinellas County Jail Tuesday after being arrested Monday on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge.

Drejka's first attorney, Lysa Clifton, was investigated by the Florida Bar on allegations that she solicited her services to Drejka while he was in jail. She was removed from the case in October 2018 and in November 2018 arrested on a DUI charge.

Caught on surveillance July 19, 2018 outside the Circle A Food Store on Sunset Point, video showed Markeis McGlockton, 28, shoving Drejka, 47, to the ground after Drejka confronted McGlockton's girlfriend over parking in a handicapped spot.

Drejka shot McGlockton in response. McGlockton later died of that wound. Drejka has claimed self defense and a stand your ground defense.
