ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The man charged with throwing his daughter off the approach to the Sunshine Skyway Bridge to her death has been ruled competent to continue his murder trial.

A second evaluation Wednesday of Jonchuck confirmed him competent to continue the trial.

The trial stalled Tuesday as the defense team said that Jonchuck was hallucinating and losing touch with reality. His defense also said he is making claims about things that did not happen, including that he heard the prosecution and several jurors talking badly about him.

A court psychologist evaluated Jonchuck on Tuesday and she said he is competent to stand trial.

Another doctor evaluated him on Wednesday as well and asked him a series of questions about the case.  The doctor said Jonchuck was able to say his daughter drowned and that a police officer saw him do it.

Jonchuck's attorneys are trying to prove he was insane when he dropped his 5-year-old daughter Phoebe off the approach of the Skyway Bridge to her death on January 8, 2015.

It wasn't until 2018 that Jonchuck was deemed competent to stand trial.

If found guilty by reason of insanity, he would likely spend the rest of his life in a mental institution. However, if jurors don't agree with the defense, then Jonchuck, 29, could go to prison for the rest of his life.
