CLEARWATER, Fla. — The final section of the Druid Road Trail, that connects the beach to the bay, is complete and officially open.

  • Network of trails started with vision 35 years ago
  • Ribbon cutting was held Friday morning

The trail will now take you all the way from Clearwater Beach to the City of Tampa — something people have waited a long time for.

"I use it a lot, I would say every day," said resident Earleen Redner. "I'm either walking to Publix or my husband and I, we ride our bikes over to Morningside and ride part of the trail there — and we do this, the whole thing we do it."

City officials said the network of trails started with a vision 35 years ago, and today, it's finally complete.  The last portion of the trail system on Druid Road now connects to the Duke Energy trail.

"The City of Clearwater had a vision of live, work, and play — and what we want to do is make sure we continue that vision. And this is an extension of that vision," Jason Beisel with the City of Clearwater said.

An official ribbon cutting ceremony for the Druid trail was held Friday morning.
