LAKELAND, Fla. — Thirty Pepin Academies students suffered minor injuries Friday morning when two charter buses collided in Polk County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened at 10:15 a.m. near Rockridge Road and Dean Still Road. 

On its Facebook page, Pepin Academies officials said 91 students and 15 staff members from its Pasco campus were aboard the buses on a field trip to Orlando.

Authorities said as one bus slowed to make a turn, another bus failed to slow down in time and collided with the first bus.

There were no serious injuries, however, 30 students were transported with minor injuries, and one by ambulance. 

Polk County Schools provided buses to transport the students and staff to a Polk fire station until replacement buses arrived to provide the return trip.

Officials have not released any further information.
