TAMPA, Fla. — There is a Community Vigil planned at Captiva Club Apartments Saturday at 7 p.m., next to building 4535, to remember and honor Meralys Velasquez and her children Sophia and Ethan.

The State Fire Marshall's Office said it is still investigating a fatal fire at the Captiva Club Apartments in Town N' Country that killed Velasquez and her children on Wednesday.

As of Thursday evening, they have not determined a cause for the fire, the third major fire at the complex since 2015.

Hillsborough County released reports on Thursday showing investigators were unable to determine what caused the previous fires in 2015 and 2018. Both causes were ruled "undetermined."

The county also released the last fire inspection report for the building that burned on Wednesday. No violations were found and the investigator noted that all smoke alarms were interconnected inside and outside of the bedrooms.

Captiva Club Apartments issued a statement Thursday regarding an expected report on the fire's cause:

"We have asked the authorities for the expected delivery date of the report, but have not received any official notice as to when the report might be released. In the meantime, our top priority has been to support the residents impacted by the fire."

They have set up a donation center in the office to collect food, clothing and other household items.
