TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa police responded to a call Monday of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle, which was updated with a complaint of "shots heard" in the area.
- Incident started with altercation outside supermarket
- Person hit by vehicle hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries
Officers arrived just before 4 p.m. at N. Central Avenue and E. Floribraska Avenue to find an adult male who was hit by a vehicle.
Police said a group of males were involved in an altercation outside of Royal Supermarket when a silver four-door vehicle drove past toward Hugh Street. The rear passenger occupant fired a gun into the air.
A subject involved in the original altercation fired a gun toward the silver vehicle, striking another uninvolved car, before fleeing on foot. No one was injured in the uninvolved car.
The driver of a silver Dodge Charger, attempting to get out of the area, struck an adult male who was on foot also trying to leave the area. That pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver has been cooperative with police.
Detectives are working to find witnesses and the people involved.
