ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Dry air continues to dominate in our region.

There was a little bit more moisture in the panhandle the past couple days which is why we saw some showers drift down into Citrus and Hernando county.

Other than that most of our area has remained dry and hot.

This is the pattern we said would stick around for a while. So don’t expect much change in the short term.

Skies will be mostly clear overnight into early Wednesday morning. Lows will be in the low to mid 70s.

Wednesday will start with clear skies followed by a mostly sunny and hot afternoon. The coastal areas have been cooler during this hot spell due to the sea breeze.

Since it’s not going very far inland, most areas away from the water have been getting into the mid to upper 90s. That pattern will continue for a couple more days.

Dry air will dominate Wednesday with no rain expected in the area.

Very slowly moisture will creep into our atmosphere, leading to a few thunderstorms popping up Thursday into Friday.

But keep in mind the coverage will be very limited to only about 10 percent.

The ridge of high pressure that has been keeping moisture and fronts away from the southeast will slowly be pushed southward this weekend. There are signs that a front will make it down into the panhandle by Sunday.

If this happens it will likely be enough to finally push moisture into our atmosphere and therefore trigger some scattered thunderstorms. The coverage might still be limited, but it would at least be a small change.

The other thing it will likely do is bring our temperatures down a few degrees and allow our sea breeze to move farther inland each afternoon.
