ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Duke Energy is taking a closer look at the latest outage at Tropicana Field.

  • Power outage at Tropicana Field
  • Outage lasted about 30 minutes
  • Duke Energy said a birds next fell into a substation

The outage Thursday night interrupted the Rays-Angels game for a little more than half an hour and left about 15,000 fans in the dark.

Duke officials said a birds nest fell down inside the 16th Street Substation, causing a spark or flare at 8:30 p.m. The substation is about three blocks away from the Trop.

About 12,000 Duke Energy customers in surrounding neighborhoods also were left in the dark.

The Rays offered fans "buy one, get one beer and soda" until last call after power was restored.

This was the second power outage of the season at the Trop.

A Rays-Yankees game was delayed for almost an hour on May 12 due to an electrical failure.
