TAMPA, Fla. — The City of Tampa is sparking a new tradition for the Fourth of July holiday — called Boom by the Bay!

Thursday will kick off the inaugural star-spangled celebration in Tampa.

The Independence Day fun will be spread out at four locations along 2.5 miles of the Downtown Tampa Waterfront.

The July 4th celebration will feature family-friendly activities, live entertainment, and four firework displays.

Residents will be able to view the fireworks from Armature Works, Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park, the Tampa Convention Center, and Sparkman Wharf.

Activities will start between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., depending on the location, and last until the fireworks go off at 9 p.m.

All HART bus services will be free on Thursday, with additional shuttles available in Downtown Tampa.  A free bike valet will also be available at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park.  If you plan to drive, just be aware that parking may be limited at certain locations.

Police Chief Brian Duggan is warning anyone who plans to watch from the water that the waterways will be shut down between 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. until the show is over.

There is no cost to attend the event and watch the fireworks displays.  Armature Works and Sparkman Wharf will be open for business, and there will be food trucks at the Tampa Convention Center, Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park, Water Works Park, and Cotanchobee Park.

Attendees are allowed to bring chairs, blankets, and small coolers.  Guests are allowed to bring food and soft drinks to the Riverwalk and parks.  Alcohol is prohibited.

If you plan on bringing your dog, please remember that the fireworks will be loud and may not be a good environment for your four-legged friend.  Service animals are welcome, along with well-behaved dogs that are kept on leashes.
