TAMPA, Fla. — A man and woman are facing child neglect charges after they were found passed out in a car with children inside, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

  • Couple passed out in SUV revived with narcan
  • Both man, woman facing child neglect charges
  • Kids unharmed, in custody of protective services

Scott Moreno and Shikira Ford were found passed out in an SUV on Bearss Avenue in Tampa with two kids in the backseat at about 3 p.m. Sunday.

Authorities said fire rescue had to revive the pair using narcan, a drug often used in opioid overdoses. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the rate of emergency responders administering narcan has gone up 75 percent between 2012 and 2016.

Officials have not said how the kids are related to the two adults. The children are OK and in child protective custody.

"Not only did these two people put children at risk, but they jeopardized the lives of countless other drivers on the road Sunday afternoon," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement.

"We are very fortunate that this situation didn't end with lives lost."

Both adults are facing child neglect charges, and Moreno also faces a DUI charge.
