TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa International Airport officials held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday morning to kick off "Phase Two" of the airport's ongoing renovation project.

So just what will construction crews be working on with this round of improvements?

Something many of the 22 million passengers who move through the airport annually say is long overdue: new curbsides.

Specifically, new express lanes will be built along the blue and red sides of the airport. The upgrades, according to TPA chief executive officer Joe Lopano, should double curbside capacity from where it currently is.

"We're one of the only airports in the country that can actually do it, and we're starting it today," Lopano said.
