INDIAN ROCKS BEACH, Fla. — A Pinellas County public service worker who was terminated Wednesday attacked two people and fled in a truck, according to authorities.

  • Errol Sylvester Gray, 52, taken into custody Wednesday
  • Deputies say Gray was terminated from job, battered supervisor
  • He is also accused of driving truck with aim at City Hall

Errol Sylvester Gray, 52, faces multiple charges after the Wednesday morning incident.

The Sheriff's Office said Gray worked for the City of Indian Rocks Beach. He was meeting with a supervisor when he learned of his termination.

Investigators said Gray became angry and "battered" the 58-year-old man. He is accused of then approaching a 50-year-old woman who witnesses the incident and assaulting her as well.

According to witnesses, Gray fled in a Ford F-450 and drove westbound on 15th Avenue North. He made U-turn toward the building and drove toward four women in front of City Hall, the Sheriff's Office said. The woman retreated into the building.

"When deputies interviewed Gray, he admitted to battering two employees inside City Hall," the Sheriff's Office said in a news release. "He also told deputies he intended to drive the flatbed truck into City Hall and into the city manager's office."

The 58-year-old man was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Gray was taken to the Pinellas County Jail.

He was charged with four counts of aggravated assault with a motor vehicle and one count each of aggravated battery, battery and resisting officer without violence.
