MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. — With over 300 students, the Manasota Youth Soccer League has had their home field, Blackstone Park, closed for months

Manasota Soccer League President Ester Garcia said after several attempts, she has not received a response on when the park would reopen.

Nick Azzara, Manatee County's Public Information Officer, updated Spectrum Bay News 9 on Monday.

"The Blackstone soccer fields are closed for re-sodding for two months in June and July," said Azzara in an email. "The fields were closed earlier than usual to keep children and other players from the nearby construction."

Azzara explained they expect the soccer field to be open in September.

"We have been off the field since January," says Garcia.

The league moved to Lincoln Park to practice, but Garcia says the field is too small to fit her 300 students.

Due to uneven turf and holes, the league was not able to conduct home games at Blackstone Park for several months.

Azzara says that the re-sodding will allow the league to soon have home games on their field again.
