PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — The man who was struck by lightning while on Clearwater Beach on July 21 has died, according to Clearwater Public Safety.

Police identified the man as Garry L. Perks of New Port Richey. He was 32 years old. 

Perks reportedly went into cardiac arrest on Wednesday, then passed away. 

Perks was on the beach behind Frenchy's Rockaway Grill Sunday when he was directly struck by the bolt just after 12:30 p.m., according to city officials. Seven other people who were near the man were injured.

Perks went into cardiac arrest and was taken to Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater. Three other people were also transported there, while one other was transported to Tampa General Hospital. 

No further information about Perks's death Wednesday has been released.
