Deputies arrested Andrea Cole, 35, and charged her with felony child neglect and resisting arrest with violence.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to Cole's duplex for a possible domestic disturbance at 12:28 p.m. As the deputies approached the home they noticed a baby and toddler sitting inside a parked car that was in direct sunlight, with only one window rolled down.

Deputies said the 7-week old baby was initially unresponsive until they rendered aid and the 2-year-old boy was crying. Both children showed signs of heat exhaustion and were taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital. The heat index at the time was 102 degrees.

Deputies said Cole was "highly intoxicated," had no idea that she left her children in the car and could not answer questions. Cole also became very hostile and stated she was going to fight the deputies.

It was filthy inside the home, with no edible food, and empty liquor bottles strewn about, according to the report. A deputy said he observed every available table top was covered in trash and soiled diapers.

Deputies said they also found numerous bites or sores on both children. Florida Department of Children and Families has gotten involved and the children are expected to recover.

Cole was booked into the Manatee County Jail on a $9,000 bond.
