WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. — Authorities say a suspect on the run is now custody after fatal Pasco County crash and carjacking on Saturday.

  • Motorcyclist killed in Wesley Chapel crash
  • Occupants of truck that caused crash then ran off, carjacked vehicle
  • Authorities took Cody Sterling Bearry into custody

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the sequence of events began just before 7:30 a.m. when a 2000 Dodge Dakota ran the traffic light at State Road 54 and Bruce B. Downs Boulevard, crashed into a motorcyclist and also struck another vehicle at the intersection.

The man, identified as Cody Sterling Bearry, 30, and a woman in the Dodge ran off from the scene after the crash.

The motorcyclist, 26-year-old Angel Rodriguez Fiallos of Wesley Chapel, died at an area hospital. A person in the other vehicle struck at the intersection suffered minor injuries.

Bearry and the woman allegedly ran to a nearby Wawa convenience store where they carjacked a green 2002 Saturn two-door sedan. They drove off eastbound on SR-54.

According to Pasco deputies, they later located the allegedly carjacked vehicle, which prompted a pursuit.

Deputies eventually recovered the vehicle on Knights Griffin Road in Hillsborough County and took a woman into custody.

The Sheriff's Office says Bearry fled the scene on foot, but they later found him while searching through the woods and a canal.

The crash closed multiple lanes of SR-54 for several hours Saturday morning. Those lanes have since been reopened.

The Pasco Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the carjacking incident as the FHP continues to investigate the fatal hit and run crash.
