PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — One of the most high profile trials in decades will start Monday, August 19, in Pinellas County.

Michael Drejka, 48, who is accused of shooting and killing Markeis McGlockton, 28, over parking in handicap space, had his last pre-trial hearing Tuesday.

During today's hearing the defense submitted a list of witnesses they plan to call on, including McGlockton's father.

Since the fatal shooting on July 19, 2018, there has been community outcry, court hearings, and state and national discussions of the law that initially protected Drejka from being charged.

Drejka tried to use the "stand your ground" defense after he shot and killed McGlockton outside the Circle A Food Store in Clearwater.

McGlockton can be seen on surveillance video shoving Drejka to the ground after Drejka confronted McGlockton's girlfriend, Britany Jacobs, for parking in a handicapped spot outside the store.

Last week, a judge allowed prosecutors to submit surveillance video of the incident as evidence in slow motion and enhanced.
