WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. — Singer and songwriter Eddie Money passed away Friday.

The 70-year-old recently revealed he had stage four esophageal cancer. 

One of his former band members, who last played on stage with the rocker in May, lives in Wesley Chapel.

Now a music educator for kids, Tommy Girvin, known professionally as Mr. Tommy, joined the band in 1986 and played with Money for more than 30 years.

"He was a star before he was a star," Girvin said. "It's the only thing he was put on this earth for."

Born in New York as Eddie Mahoney, he leaves behind a wife and five children.
