HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — University of South Florida Researchers are helping with recovery efforts after Hurricane Michael and Dorian hit the Bahamas.

The researchers are helping right from their own campus.

The school's mapping technology allows recovery crews to see before and after aerial photos of the hardest hit areas in the Bahamas.

This lets them know which spots to visit first.

"Now you can see basically piles of rubber that you can equate to those individual structures, so you know people were there, potentially the missing are still there, so that's going to hopefully help," USF Research Associate Professor Dr. Lori Collins said.

The next step in this technology is to make it a more automated process.
