WINTER PARK, Fla. — A person is recovering after an overhang at a Winter Park Tijuana Flats restaurant fell on them Monday night, according to officials.

Just before 10 p.m., firefighters responded to a call of a building collapse with a person trapped under the debris near the 1900 block of Aloma Avenue, Winter Park Fire Rescue said.

The "person was safely extricated from the debris," said the agency on its Facebook page.

Investigators are trying to figure out what caused part of the restaurant to fall. Construction work is taking place at the shopping center where the collapse happened.

A spokesperson with the City of Winter Park released the following statement late Tuesday afternoon:

"The city’s chief inspector has been out to the site and the representatives from Tijuana Flats will be doing an evaluation of the incident and providing their findings to the city. The city will be checking on this daily to ensure it is addressed and that the structural integrity of this roof canopy is safe."
