ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — March for Our Lives students held another rally in Tallahassee on Thursday, and as the students urged lawmakers to change gun laws, they learned of another school shooting that had just happened in California.

  • Tallahassee rally against gun violence this week
  • Students called on lawmakers to ban semi-automatic weapons
  • "Peace Plan" For Change

Dozens of students spoke out, alongside lawmakers - all Democrats, and pushed for change. They called on lawmakers to ban semi-automatic weapons, make it more difficult to get a gun, and they want a task force created to prevent gun violence.

One State Representative at the rally from Broward County was emotional.  He said he graduated from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2008 and knew the teachers and coach who were killed in that shooting.

He said the California school shooting brought back a flood of memories.

“If you look at the images of students being led out of the school with police officers heavily armed to safety they’re the same photos we see time and again they’re the same photos and same video that we saw at Stoneman Douglas.  When is it going to stop?  When is it enough?,” said Representative Dan Daley.

March for Our Lives proposed a ‘Peace Plan’ for change.

Since the Parkland shooting, security at schools across the state is beefed up and lawmakers passed “red flag” laws which allow authorities to take away firearms from anyone a judge agrees is a danger.

They also raised the age to purchase a gun from 18 to 21.
