ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — An 8-year-old St. Petersburg girl is in critical condition after being struck by a van Wednesday evening.

The crash happened at the intersection of 16th Street South and 9th Avenue South when the van struck the median lane. 

According to witnesses, the girl didn't make it all the way across with a group of other children. 

"The little girl was trying to come across the street and she ultimately got hit by that white van right there," said Sunny, who saw the crash. "And she had went up in the air and then came down and got drug under the van. That’s why her shoes ended up under the other lady’s car."

The girl was rushed to John Hopkins All Children's Hospital. No further information has been released on her condition.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police. 

So far, no charges have been filed in this case.
