NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. -- A jury was selected Monday in the trial of Steven Marin, 28. Marin is charged with second-degree murder in the 2018 drive-by shooting death of Christian Robinson, 14. The teen was shot while riding in the backseat of a car in Port Richey on Valentine's Day. He died three days later.

Six jurors and one alternate were chosen from an initial pool of 50 people.

One of the topics addressed by Assistant State Attorney Eva Vergos could suggest what the State Attorney's Office will argue led up to the incident.

"There may be some testimony in this case that involves some type of road rage situation," Vergos told potential jurors. "Is there anyone here who has had or who knows someone who has had such a bad experience with being the victim of a road rage situation?"

A few people volunteered to Vergos that they thought an extreme prejudice against guns could prevent them from being impartial during deliberations.

William Pura, an attorney for Marin, focused on making sure jurors understood reasonable doubt and the state's burden of proof.

"You think that the defendant in that trial is maybe guilty, but you're not convinced beyond a reasonable doubt. Would you be able to render a verdict?" Pura asked after describing a hypothetical situation to potential jurors.

Opening statements are scheduled to begin Tuesday morning.
