WORCESTER - An acrobatic ice show is taking over the DCU Center in Worcester this weekend.

On Thursday, artists from the Cirque du Soleil's AXEL rehearsed their moves ahead of last night's opening performance.

The six scheduled performances promise to combine visual effects, live music and some pyrotechnics -- and the show's story centers around the journey of a young man named Axel.

Artists say if you've never been, it's like any other show.

"The show is such a cool fusion of live music, live action, a comic book meets an anime series. They're really cool characters you can go on a journey with," said AXEL performer Jeremy Ten, VI.

AXEL's touring publicist Julie Desmarais said, "There's a lot of dedication from the artists. Most of them start at a young age before they start at that level, but there's also a lot of training involved."

Cirque du Soleil's AXEL is at the DCU Center again on Friday night at 7:30 PM.

There are two shows each on Saturday and Sunday:

  • Saturday, December 7 at 3:30 PM and 7:30 PM
  • Sunday, December 8 at 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM
