BRADENTON, Fla. — Sifting through layers of dirt and sediment at Manatee Mineral Springs Park, a team of archaeologists are working to uncover the history of Bradenton's first settlers.

The month-long project kicked off on December 30 and will last roughly four weeks.

So far, the team has unearthed artifacts believed to be from Native Americans, the Angola Freedom Seekers, and Anglo-American settlers.

Due to the access to fresh water and location by the gulf, the park is believed to be one of the first spots settled in Manatee County.

Our Angie Angers gives us an inside look at the dig in action. Watch the video above to see what the team discovered while our crews were there.
