HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Several cold weather shelters are opening up across the Bay Area Monday night due to temperatures expecting to drop below 40 degrees. 

The shelters are available for anyone who is homeless or for those who live in homes without adequate heat.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY

Six cold weather shelters will be opening Monday night in Hillsborough County. 

Individuals, including pet owners, who need transportation to a cold weather shelter should call the Hillsborough County Sunshine Line to arrange a ride at (813) 272-7272 from 4 p.m. until capacity is reached or until 7 p.m., whichever occurs first. Officials recommend calling for a ride only if you are stranded in the cold weather, or live in a home without adequate heat and are physically unable to get to a shelter.

CITRUS COUNTY

One shelter is opening in Lecanto at the Salavation Army located at 712 School Avenue. It will be open from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Officials say anyone seeking a cold weather shelter can go to either the Family Resource Center, located at 2435 N Florida Ave in Hernando, OR the Winn Dixie in Homosassa, located at Hwy 19 and Grover Cleveland Blvd., for a one-time pickup at 6 p.m.  The Citrus County Transit system will also transport people to teh Salvation Army at no cost. PINELLAS COUNTY

Seven cold weather shelters are opening Monday night in Pinellas County due to temps dropping below 40 degrees.  Shelter guests will be provided a hot meal, a warm, safe place to sleep, and breakfast the following morning.
