SRPING HILL, Fla. – A man was shot and killed by a deputy Saturday in Spring Hill, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

The shooting happened shortly after 2:30 p.m. at a home in the 500 block of Golf Club Lane in the Silverthorn subdivision.
Authorities were called to the home after reports of shots being fired. The 911 caller told the dispatcher that a family member was threatening others with a gun and firing the weapon inside the home, according to the Sheriff's Office.
When the first deputy arrived, a man inside the house began firing shots at the deputy, who requested backup.
The deputy returned fire, killing the man, the Sheriff's Office said.
The man shot a family member inside the home before the deputy arrived, according to the Sheriff's Office. That person was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.
