Officers were dispatched to the scene in the 8400 block of N. Orleans Avenue at 2:32 p.m. Upon arrival, they found three people with gunshot wounds.

Two of them, a woman and a man both in their 50's, identified as "Victim One" and "Victim Two", respectively, were transported to St. Joseph's Hospital. Victim One later died at the hospital.

Police identified the third person with gunshot wounds as the suspect. They described him as a man in his 60's and said he died at the scene.

Investigators said preliminary information pointed to the suspect going to the location and shooting Victim Two, who was working in the yard. He then turned his weapon on Victim One, who was also outside the home, and shot her.

Victim Two was armed at the time and fired back at the suspect. A female witness who was also outside the house returned fire at the suspect, as well. Police said it was the shots fired by the female witness that killed the suspect.

Finally, police said the suspect, Victim One, and the female witness who shot and killed the suspect, are related. Victim Two is a neighbor.

Resident Dadeon Lee told us he was at home doing yard work when he realized what was happening.

"I just heard 'POW! POW! and I'm like, 'that's a gunshot' and I'm like, 'that's real close, let me go check on my neighbor and see if he's alright,'" Lee explained.

That's when Lee said he found that neighbor laying on the ground injured. He said the man was trimming a tree when a shooting occurred nearby and it's possible he was struck by a stray bullet.

"Don't nobody want to hear of somebody getting shot," Lee said. "This is mindblowing."
