BRADENTON, Fla. — After two weeks at home on an extended spring break, Stacey Carlin says her two children were ready to get back to school. Her seventh grade son even woke up early, prepared to login to his class at 9 a.m.

Carlin says while everything started smoothly on Monday morning, Schoology, the portal that Manatee County students are using to complete their classwork, started crashing 90 minutes in.

"We crashed repeatedly,” she said.

The Carlins were not alone. Students across the country received the same error message throughout the day as more users logged on to the eLearning platform.

A number of Manatee County schools sent out emails to families informing them of the problem and asking them to continue to try to log in.

It didn’t stop Carlin from working closely with her 6-year-old daughter, Molly, on reading and math skills.

"We're going to do the best we can if we can't get the computer to cooperate and the system overall to cooperate,” she said.

School district spokesperson Mike Barber said 26,000 students were able to successfully login to Schoology on Monday. The district was aware of the connectivity problem, but Barber said because it originated with the company and not the school district, there wasn’t much they could do to fix the problem.

Manatee County parents reported that the bulk of the connectivity issues began around 10:15 a.m. and lasted for a couple of hours.

Students are asked to try using Schoology again on Tuesday to continue their coursework. Assignments are given one week at a time, so students have until Sunday for coursework to be completed.
