PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. -- A Pinellas County teacher is going above and beyond to make sure her students have something to keep them happy during distance learning and over the summer.

Rachel Treiser, a kindergarten teacher at Eisenhower Elementary School in Clearwater, is known for her end-of-year project where her students get to write and illustrate their very own book.

Typically, the class has a reveal party where the kids celebrate and receive their books in class, but with schools closed for the rest of the school year due to COVID-19, Treiser had to come up with a different plan.

"This was going to go on no matter what," she said.

Treiser decided to load up her car and bring the books to each child's home.

She drove door-to-door to 19 children's homes.

"He was completely surprised," said Luke Sims, whose son Elijah is one of Treiser's students. "He was wondering why he was getting dressed up to sit at home so I think he was very excited about it."

At each house, Treiser gives a smile and receives even bigger ones in return.

She said the hardest thing is keeping her distance.

"Oh my gosh, I want to hug them I want to say, "I'm here" and give them a big hug but because of social distancing I really have to keep my distance" she said.

Carmen Acosta said she appreciated the gesture for her granddaughter, Natalia.

"I cried when she told me she was coming," Acosta said. "This will be part of my granddaughter's history, it's part of her education and I think it's something she'll have for a very long time.

Treiser said for her, it's all about the students.

"I want them to be able to look back at this and say "You know what, although I was home and I was working on-line, my teacher was still able to come to me within the circumstances and I have this item to treasure and be able to show my children and grandchildren in years to come," she said.
