ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Displaced workers can now get on the fast track to training at St. Petersburg College.

What You Need To Know

"The Job Ready program at St. Petersburg College was birthed out of the idea that there are many people in Pinellas County and the surrounding areas that have been impacted and laid off by COVID-19 furloughs," said Michael Ramsey, Dean of Workforce Development.

"We want to provide an opportunity for them to take this time to reskill and upskill, to either change their career path that they're on right now or to upskill to make themselves more attractive in the career field that they’re currently exist in, if they’re lucky enough to still be employed."

It's a fast track to online training. Some programs only take sixteen weeks.

"People in this community need a chance to get back on that workforce trajectory that doesn’t take a whole lot of time," said Dean Ramsey.

He says it's different than any other program because it targets industry sectors hiring right now.

"COVID-19 has turned business as usual up on its head here in our community so we’re targeting areas such as computer programming, drafting, insurance, areas where there’s jobs right now, today," Ramsey said.

Training is also offered in:
-Bookkeeping, Accounting and Auditing Clerks
-Accounting Technology
-Transportation, Storage, and Distribution Managers
-Computer Aided Design
-Medical Coding
-Public Safety Telecommunication
-Cybersecurity

Dean Ramsey reminds that financial aid and scholarships are available for those who qualify.

The summer express session begins June 15. The fall term begins August 17. Weekend sessions start August 21.
