It's all in an effort to restock food banks and other non-profit services that took a big hit during the Coronavirus lockdown.

Kirk Ray Smith with RCS said its' non-profits are slowly bouncing back, but he wants to make sure his group is fully recovered in case lockdowns are ordered again.

"As this continues to go, it's not like people that have lost their jobs, that 100 percent of them have returned to employment," Smith said.  "I mean we've seen people in BMW's pull up to our food banks man.  They were doing well and then the bottom fell out and now they are in need of groceries.  I don't anticipate that changing, in fact I think it is going to get worse."

Food Pantries in Pinellas County took a big hit as the lockdown set in back in April.  People lost their jobs and kids instantly lost those important breakfast and lunch meals they would normally get in school.

At the same time, big food bank contributors like Publix and Winn Dixie were experiencing a run on stores. RCS estimates an 80 percent loss as people cleared grocery store shelves.

And finally, RCS says volunteer numbers dropped off dramatically over fears of Coronavirus infection.

RCS has not set any goals for its 90 for 90 campaign, however if just 2 percent of Pinellas County Residents participate, it would raise more than $1.5 million dollars and generate 30,000 volunteer hours.
