STATEWIDE — Florida reported a higher number of new coronavirus cases Sunday, though the number of new statewide deaths fell slightly.

The Florida Department of Health Sunday reported 12,478 new coronavirus cases in Florida, along with 87 new statewide deaths. There were also 339 new hospitalized cases statwide.

The median age of new cases is 41.

The Central Florida area reported far fewer new deaths than it had reported Saturday — only 11, compared to 46 the day before.

However, the nine-county area reported 1,975 new cases, compared to 1,521 the day before.

Orange County reported the largest number of new cases, with 741, along with three new deaths. 

The Tampa area reported 2,137 new cases in the latest report, with 7 new deaths.

Hillsborough County had the latest number of new cases among Florida residents with 608. Pinellas County had the largest number of new reported deaths, with four.

  • Lake County: 137
  • Marion County: 164, 2 deaths
  • Orange County: 741, 3 deaths
  • Osceola County: 285
  • Seminole County: 179, 2 deaths
  • Sumter County: 40, 1 death
  • Volusia County: 229, 2 deaths

Tampa Area New Cases and Deaths:

  • Citrus County: 30
  • Hernando County: 69
  • Hillsborough County: 608, 1 death
  • Manatee County: 284
  • Pasco County: 176, 2 deaths
  • Pinellas County: 476, 4 deaths
  • Polk County: 494

The latest county-by-county report is available on the Florida Dept. of Health website.

The total number of Florida coronavirus deaths is now up to 4,982, the health department reported, with 109 non-Florida resident deaths related to the virus overall. That means the state is 18 deaths away from reaching a death toll of 5,000.
