"The time has come for your voice to be heard, don’t be quiet like a mouse you gotta sing like a bird," sings Tanya Lareese, to start off the Voice Your Vote 2020 song.

The song's creation started back in March when Michelle Passoff, a local artist, got the idea to make a non-partisan song about voting.

“It's essential to our democracy, and if freedom is going to endure we have to get out there and go to the polls," said Passoff, team coordinator. “Music is a way to communicate that gets to the soul. This is a soulful message from Tampa Bay to other cities and hometowns just like ours all across the country.

She gathered a team of 25 to 30 local musicians, songwriters, and other artists to write and produce the song. A key part of the song is to explain people's options when it comes to going to the polls. In the song it says, "One, vote ahead be an early bird. Two, by mail may be preferred. Three, rock the polls on November 3rd. Either way make your voice heard.”

Parts of the song are sung in both English and Spanish, plus it features artists of all ages. Trinity Sanchez, 16, performs the rap section of the song and she is not even old enough to vote.

“I didn’t even know what politics was, I was really confused about it," Sanchez admits. "When I had that conversation with her (Passoff), it really changed my perspective about it, and how I viewed young for voting and how important it actually is.”

In a year like 2020, full of so many political stances, the voting polls really are the place to be to create change.

“It’s been a really rough year. I would say, 2020, at least my lifetime and a lot of people’s lifetime, it’s been a really rough," said Clint Mouriño, the director.

“With all the protest, everything that went on. You had to feel that. And I wanted people to say, you are out here protesting, you wanting’ change. Get out and vote, vote," said Lareese.
